This year's World Quality Day will be celebrated on November 9, 2023. Established by the UN (United Nations Organization), which recognized the date as "world heritage", the celebrations will be held on the second Thursday of November, with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of quality in all aspects of life and work.
During this day, many organizations and institutions hold events, workshops, seminars and activities related to quality to promote awareness and education about quality practices. It is an important date for those working in the field of quality management and for any professional interested in improving quality in their work and in society in general.
In Japan, the celebration has been taking place since 1960. In China, since 1978. The United States and Canada have been celebrating Quality since 1988. Not to mention that in some of these countries the celebration has already reached the level of Quality Month.

Although the official day was "standardized" worldwide by the UN, another institution played a key role in this whole story. THE IQC (Chartered Quality Institute) is the official world body for quality professionals. The institute was founded in 1919 and has played a key role in the dissemination of quality and the consolidation of World Quality Day. To give you an idea, ISO itself (International Organization for Standardization), responsible for the creation and revision of ISO 9001, was only founded in 1947.
Quality plays a key role in customer satisfaction, operational efficiency and the continuous improvement of products and services. World Quality Day is an opportunity for organizations to reflect on their quality practices and processes and to highlight their commitment to excellence.
The theme of World Quality Day 2023 is "Quality: realizing your competitive potential".
The official theme of the celebration, suggested by the CQI, aims to promote a global campaign to raise awareness of the quality management profession and focus on the theme of realizing its competitive potential.
Building your culture and quality capacity
If you want to offer superior customer value, achieve productive processes and deliver effective strategic changes, you must develop a quality culture and capacity. Even small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can access and implement quality principles and methods with ease. While compliance and risk management remain key, improving quality capability involves much more than meeting standards and audits.
The importance of a competitive advantage
In today's complex and dynamic risk scenarios, maintaining a competitive edge requires more than just operational resilience. Quality improvement principles and methods can help organizations quickly and effectively address inherent inefficiencies, enabling them to meet new customer expectations faster, more economically and sustainably than their competitors. Research carried out in the UK construction sector GIRI shows that avoidable errors in construction currently cost 21% of the project value. By eliminating these inefficiencies across the economy, productivity, safety and sustainability will benefit.
The importance of quality for a company's competitiveness is a fundamental issue in the business world. Quality affects an organization's ability to stand out in the market, win customers, maintain its reputation and ultimately achieve success.
In highly competitive markets, quality is a way of differentiating a company from its competitors. Customers are willing to pay more for high-quality products, and this can be an effective strategy for gaining a share of the market.

In radiology and diagnostic imaging, quality involves several aspects, including image quality, patient safety, diagnostic accuracy and process efficiency. Here are some of the main elements that contribute to quality in radiology and diagnostic imaging:
Image quality: The quality of the radiological image must be high to enable an accurate diagnosis. This involves optimizing exposure parameters, properly maintaining equipment and reducing artifacts that can impair image interpretation.
Patient Safety: Patient safety is a priority in radiology. This includes measures to reduce exposure to ionizing radiation, ensure that the patient is properly identified and that procedures are carried out with precision and care.
Diagnostic Accuracy: Radiologists play a fundamental role in the interpretation of radiological images. Proper education and training are essential to ensure that radiologists are able to make accurate diagnoses.
Quality control: Quality control programs must be implemented to monitor and maintain the quality of radiological equipment, processes and images. This includes regular calibration of equipment, checking the quality of images and ensuring the quality of examinations.
Access to Information: Ensuring proper access to images and clinical information is essential to providing quality care. This involves the secure storage and efficient retrieval of radiological data.
To commemorate this date, the Accreditation and Diagnostic Imaging Program, Padi, will hold a free webinar on November 9 at 7:30 p.m. on the topic "Quality: realizing your competitive potential"Notrelabs, a network of clinical analysis and diagnostic imaging laboratories, presented a case study on the importance of a quality management system for competitiveness in the radiology and diagnostic imaging market.
